Penguin Books was one of the most successful modern British design projects. Egon Riss’ birch plywood ‘donkey’ is an elegant response to the question of how to store a growing collection of the new ‘paperbacks’. It is manufactured in London by Isokon Plus, the continuation of the firm owned by Jack Pritchard, one of Britain’s pioneering patrons of modern architecture and design. Designed in 1939.
