A very rare antique specimen of a Golden Lion Tamarin Monkey(Leontopithecus
rosalia). This example was mounted in the 1920’s-1930’s. It’s fur is golden as
it’s name suggests, shiny and silky soft. It was part of a collection of monkeys on similar plinths, a couple of which we’re labelled Rowland Ward so it it is highly likely Rowland Ward’s are the makers. Golden Lion Tamarin Monkeys are one of the rarest mammals in the world with only an estimated 1000 left in the wild they’re conservation status is listed as critically endangered.
